Saanvi Deshwal — Women’s 100m Breaststroke Gold

Saanvi Deshwal of Maharashtra, born in 2011, claimed her fourth individual podium of the championship by winning the Women’s 100m Breaststroke in 1:13.22. The national record of 1:12.67 by Lineysha AK, set at Hyderabad in 2023, remained intact — Saanvi was 0.55 seconds outside it. S Lakshya of Karnataka took silver at 1:14.26 and Harshitha Jayaram of RSPB bronze at 1:14.62. Lineysha AK, who won the 50m Breaststroke on Day 1, finished sixth at 1:16.25 — a notable reversal of fortunes over the longer distance.

Thanya Shadakshari — Women’s 400m Medley NMR

The Women’s 400m Medley produced the evening’s most significant result. Thanya Shadakshari of Karnataka clocked 4:56.78 — a new National Meet Record, breaking Richa Mishra’s mark of 4:59.17 which had stood since Trivandrum in 2018. That is an eight-year-old record finally erased. Saanvi Deshwal again showed her versatility, finishing second at 5:01.88 for her fourth podium finish in four days. Shreenithi Natesan of Tamil Nadu was third at 5:10.30.

Tamil Nadu Win the Mixed 4x100m Medley Relay

Tamil Nadu won the Mixed 4x100m Medley Relay final in 4:01.87, holding off Karnataka by just 0.14 seconds (4:02.01) with RSPB third at 4:06.71. The national record of 4:03.44 set by Tamil Nadu at Bhubaneswar last year was not broken. Both Tamil Nadu and Karnataka were inside the NMR — an indication of how competitive this event has become.

What to Watch on Day 5

Two days remain. The Women’s 200m Butterfly will be the headline event — Astha Choudhury, who broke the national record on Day 1, will be targeting another big swim. The Men’s 100m Backstroke brings Rishabh Anupam Das back to the pool, where he will be chasing Srihari Nataraj’s national record of 55.10 having already clocked 55.44 on Day 1. The Women’s 200m Breaststroke and Men’s 400m Freestyle are also on the programme. With Karnataka holding a commanding lead in the overall tally, the question is no longer who leads — but how many more records fall before Ahmedabad is done.
